Koboyashi Collection
Over the course of human history, an undeniable mystique has always been attached to the art of forging fine blades by hand. Japan, with its long and rich history of producing the finest swords in the world has been a leading exponent of this art.
This mystique has driven blacksmiths to produce blades whose qualities far surpass any functional requirements. This ritualised drive for perfection is characterised by Samurai swordsmiths and a few elite knifesmiths in Japan. There is no doubt that Kobayashi sensei, maker to the Imperial Court of Japan, belongs to this rare species of craftsmen.
His knives are works of art, forged by hand using the finest raw materials available. The wave like pattern of the multi-layered steel gives these knives the appearance of wood but in metal and serves as a perfect compliment to the breathtaking sharpness of the cutting edge. The blade (crafted from an exceptional High Carbon Steel known as Aogami No. 1 Blue Steel) is set in a buffalo horn collar and Makassar Ebony handle which further accentuate the beauty of the steel.
